One of the two mandated services stated in the Congressional Charter of the American Red Cross (ARC) is service to the Armed Forces. The ARC provides verified emergency communications messages and access to financial assistance through referrals to military aid societies as well as local resources, if available. The ARC office serving Elmendorf and Fort Richardson is located in the People Center, Room 217, at 8517 20th Ave., Elmendorf Air Force Base.

ARC services are provided 24/7 through a network of service centers staffed by caseworkers, offices with caseworkers on military bases/posts, caseworkers working after-hours from home and chapters. Red Cross provides the verification of the emergency situation, enabling service members and commanders to make informed decisions on leave and other matters related to the emergency. Access to financial assistance with Air Force Aid Society is also available to qualifying service members and family.

Volunteers are the heart of the American Red Cross and opportunities exist for becoming involved with either the Elmendorf office or the chapter located in Anchorage.
